01 — About

I make images for people with intent.

Before smartphones, before instant uploads, there was a bulky family camcorder — and it changed everything for me. Watching ordinary moments become something you could hold onto, rewind, and relive lit a spark I've never been able to shake. Those home recordings weren't just videos; they were proof that moments matter, and that capturing them is its own kind of art.

That spark followed me into the yearbook halls of middle and high school, where I first picked up a camera with purpose — documenting the faces, friendships, and milestones of an entire community. By college, I was hooked. My first camera came from a local pawn shop, bought on layaway, and it became the tool that turned a passion into a calling.

I'm Gerald Teteh, founder of Black Xposure. A Togolese-Nigerian American, born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, my journey took me out west to Oakland, California before bringing me back home — where I continue to tell stories through my lens. Every session is different — sometimes I'm documenting what's already beautiful, sometimes I'm constructing it from scratch. Both demand the same eye.

Let's make something worth holding onto.

02 — Process

How a project flows.

  1. 01

    Brief

A short call to align on the deliverable, the audience, and the constraints. No fluff.

  2. 02

    Plan

Treatment, shotlist, locations, crew. You get the scope in writing before we shoot.

  3. 03

    Shoot

Calm, prepared set. Lit on purpose, framed on purpose. Director-friendly.

  4. 04

    Deliver

Unedited proofs first for selection. Edits and retouching follow your picks. Final files delivered digitally — days, not weeks.

03 — Capabilities

What I bring.

  • Photography — professional mirrorless camera
  • Cinema — professional cinema camera
  • Studio loadout — All equipment necessary for production
  • Direction & art-direction
  • Retouching & color grading
04 — Philosophy

An image is the cheapest part of a campaign and the most expensive thing to get wrong. I don't shoot fast for the sake of it, and I don't over-design either. I show up prepared, I light deliberately, and I look for the frame that earns the brief.

05 — Testimonials

Model

Gerald was great to work with, he had prompt communication, made great use of our time and was flexible during our session. Gerald made sure to make me feel comfortable and bring my best foot forward during the headshot process. He was also great at communicating the turnaround time and expectations of the shoot. I would, definitely book another round of headshots with Gerald and recommend him to others as well.

If I were to describe Black Xposure in one word, it would be 'excellence.' From the moment I reached out for a quote to the final delivery of assets, every step was handled with professionalism. The results were fantastic, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
